Intuitive Eating Support to Break Free from Chronic Dieting
You deserve more than counting calories and chasing the next diet. Our registered dietitians use a compassionate, evidence-based approach to help you rebuild trust with food and your body, without restriction, guilt, or shame.
Two very different relationships with food. One keeps you stuck, the other sets you free.
Chronic Dieting & Intuitive Eating
What Is Chronic Dieting?
Chronic dieting is the exhausting pattern of repeatedly starting and abandoning diets, cycling between rigid restriction, intense cravings, and eventual overeating. Over time, this pattern erodes your metabolism, increases food preoccupation, disrupts hunger and fullness cues, and takes a significant toll on both your physical and emotional health.
Many chronic dieters describe feeling like they're "always starting over on Monday." Research shows that up to 95% of diets fail long-term, and the restrict-binge cycle often leads to weight cycling, increased body dissatisfaction, and disordered eating behaviors.
What Is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive eating is an evidence-based, non-diet framework developed by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. Rather than relying on external food rules, calorie tracking, or meal plans, intuitive eating teaches you to reconnect with your body's internal wisdom, honoring hunger, respecting fullness, and finding genuine satisfaction in eating.
Built on 10 guiding principles, intuitive eating has been validated by over 200 studies and is associated with improved mental health, lower rates of disordered eating, better body image, and more sustainable health behaviors over time.
Many Faces of Dieting
Diet culture comes in many disguises — fad plans, restrictive rules, "clean eating”, yo-yo cycles, calorie tracking, and detoxes all run on the same restrict-and-rebound loop that can harden into chronic dieting. We help you name the pattern, step off the cycle for good, and rebuild an easier relationship with food.
Fad & Rapid-result Diets
Plans that promise quick, dramatic change are nearly impossible to sustain, setting up a cycle of restriction and rebound that often leaves you feeling worse than before.
How we helpWe help you trade the boom-and-bust cycle for an approach that actually lasts.
Restrictive & Elimination Diets
Cutting out whole food groups without a medical reason can fuel fear, preoccupation, and a steadily shrinking list of “allowed” foods.
How we helpWe gently reintroduce variety and ease, so eating stops feeling like a minefield.
“Clean Eating” & Wellness Culture
When “healthy” eating becomes rigid and moralized, it can quietly tip into anxiety and guilt. (Orthorexia hiding behind good intentions)
How we helpWe help you keep the genuine self-care while letting go of the rules and the shame.
Yo-yo & On-again, Off-again Dieting
The loop of losing and regaining keeps you stuck and slowly erodes trust in your own body and choices.
How we helpWe help you step off the cycle entirely, instead of starting it over one more time.
Tracking & Counting Culture
Apps and trackers can turn every meal into a math problem that drowns out your body's own signals.
How we helpWe help you set the numbers down and tune back in to yourself.
Detoxes, Cleanses & “Resets”
Marketed as fresh starts, these usually mean restriction in disguise, followed by the same familiar rebound.
How we helpWe help you find a steadiness that never needs a reset button.
Body Image & Dieting
For so many people, dieting was never really about health. It’s about trying to fix a body they were taught to dislike. If that’s you, you’re not alone, and healing the way you relate to your body is part of the work we do here.
Why do I hate my body?
Body hatred is learned, not born — and it usually has far more to do with the world around you than with your actual body. A lifetime of diet culture, weight stigma, filtered images, and comparison can teach almost anyone to see their body as a problem to be solved. That pain is real and valid, and it makes complete sense given everything you’ve absorbed. The hopeful part is that what’s learned can be gently unlearned, especially with support.
What is body dysmorphia?
Body dysmorphia (body dysmorphic disorder) is a recognized mental health condition in which someone becomes intensely preoccupied with perceived flaws that others often can’t see or barely notice. It can drive a great deal of distress, checking, comparison, and avoidance, and it’s far more than ordinary insecurity. It’s also treatable, and it deserves real support rather than self-judgment. Because it lives where mind and body meet, it’s usually best supported by a team, something we help coordinate.
I am dieting for my health and because I'm fat.
Being fat isn't a flaw, and it isn't a disease that dieting has to fix.The idea that a larger body must be shrunk comes from fatphobia and weight stigma, not from your body or your health. Caring about your health is completely valid, but health and body size aren't the same thing, and the research is clear that dieting to change your body tends to backfire and strain your relationship with food. As a weight-inclusive practice, we don't prescribe diets or weight loss, we help you support your health directly and build a calmer, kinder relationship with food and your body, exactly as it is.
What is fatphobia, and how might it be affecting me?
Fatphobia (also called weight stigma) is the cultural bias that treats larger bodies as less worthy, less healthy, or less disciplined — and it’s everywhere, from media to medicine. When you grow up surrounded by it, it’s nearly impossible not to turn some of it inward, which can fuel body shame and a drive to diet. Here’s what we want you to know: the bias is the problem, not your body. Naming fatphobia for what it is can be a powerful first step in loosening its grip.
Why doesn’t losing weight make me feel better about my body?
Because body image lives in the mind and the heart, not on the scale — so changing your body rarely changes how you feel about it for long. Many people reach a goal they once chased only to find the discomfort quietly attaches itself to something new. That isn’t a personal failure; it’s a sign that the real work is internal, not physical. Making peace with your body is about healing your relationship with it, not editing it.
Can I feel okay in my body without changing it?
Yes — and you don’t have to love your body to get there. Body neutrality and body acceptance offer a middle path: relating to your body with less judgment and more respect, regardless of how you feel about it on any given day. It’s real, supportable work, not a switch you’re meant to flip on your own. Many people find that as the pressure to change their body eases, peace finally has room to grow.

Not sure you're ready to give up dieting?
That's okay. You don't have to have it all figured out, and you don't have to agree with everything to start a conversation. Here are two things we hear often.
“I want to keep my diet, but I don't want to slip into an eating disorder.”
We hear you — wanting to feel in control of your health makes complete sense, and you're not wrong to take that worry seriously. Here's what we'd gently offer: restriction is one of the biggest known risk factors for developing an eating disorder, and the line between “a diet” and disordered eating can be far thinner and blurrier than it looks from the inside. You don't have to quit everything overnight, and you won't be lectured. We can simply help you notice where your current approach might be costing you more than it gives, and explore small, safer shifts at a pace that feels right for you.
“I want to lose weight in a healthy way.”
It makes complete sense to want to feel good, energized, and at home in your body — those hopes are real and valid. We'll be honest with you: as a weight-inclusive practice, we don't offer diets or weight-loss plans. Decades of research show that intentional dieting usually backfires and can quietly harm your relationship with food and your body over time. What we offer instead is a different path to feeling well — one built on steady, satisfying nourishment, movement that feels good rather than punishing, rest, and self-compassion, with no scale required. Many people are surprised to feel better, and freer, than any diet ever made them feel. If weight is weighing on your mind, we're a safe, judgment-free place to talk it through.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Common signs of chronic dieting include frequently starting new diets, feeling guilty after eating certain foods, categorizing foods as "good" or "bad," obsessing over calories or macros, experiencing cycles of restriction followed by overeating, and feeling like your self-worth is tied to your weight or how well you followed your diet. If food and body thoughts take up a significant portion of your day, working with a non-diet dietitian could be a transformative step.
-
Breaking the diet cycle starts with stepping away from restriction, which is what keeps the cycle going in the first place. Each new diet typically leads to deprivation, intense cravings, and eventual rebound eating, followed by guilt and another restart. It’s an exhausting loop that often makes things worse over time. The way out isn't a “better” diet but rebuilding trust with food and your body, usually with the support of a non-diet dietitian. We help you unlearn diet rules, reconnect with your body's cues, and find an approach to eating that finally feels sustainable.
-
A non-diet dietitian helps you improve your relationship with food and your health without prescribing restriction, weigh-ins, or weight loss. Instead of calorie counts and rigid meal plans, we use frameworks like intuitive eating and Health at Every Size® to support flexible, satisfying eating and genuine well-being. The focus is on adding trust, freedom, and self-compassion rather than taking food away. It's a fundamentally different experience from the weight-focused advice many people have encountered before.
-
Intuitive eating is not a weight-loss program, and we are transparent about that. Some people's weight may change during the process, some go up, some go down, and some stay the same. What research consistently shows is that intuitive eating leads to improved metabolic health, better mental health, reduced disordered eating, and more sustainable health behaviors regardless of weight change. Our focus is on your overall well-being, not a number on the scale.
-
Yes, intuitive eating is one of the most well-researched approaches in the non-diet field, validated by over 200 studies. Research associates it with improved psychological well-being, lower rates of disordered eating, better body image, and more stable eating patterns over time. Unlike dieting — which research shows tends to fail and often backfires long-term — intuitive eating is designed to be a lifelong framework rather than a temporary fix. Our dietitians help you apply it in a way that fits your real life.
-
Intuitive eating is about reconnecting with your body and eating with both freedom and attunement. While it removes rigid rules and “off-limits” foods, it also invites you to notice hunger, fullness, satisfaction, and how different foods make you feel. Many people find that when all foods are genuinely allowed, the urgency and preoccupation around “forbidden” foods fades. It's a balance of permission and self-care, and a dietitian can help you find that balance.
