Understanding Eating Disorders
Anorexia Nervosa (including atypical)
Restriction of food intake leading to significantly low body weight, intense fear of gaining weight, and disturbed body image. Atypical anorexia presents the same behaviors and fears but at any weight.
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
Limited eating not driven by body image concerns, often related to sensory sensitivities, fear of choking, or lack of interest in food. Common in children and neurodiverse individuals.
Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
Recurrent episodes of eating large amounts of food while feeling out of control, often accompanied by shame, guilt, and emotional distress.
Bulimia Nervosa
Cycles of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as purging, excessive exercise, or fasting.
Orthorexia
Obsessive focus on "healthy" or "clean" eating that becomes restrictive and harmful, interfering with daily life and wellbeing.
OSFED
(Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder) - Eating disorder symptoms that cause significant distress but don't meet full criteria for other diagnoses. Equally valid and deserving of care.
Compulsive Exercise
Driven, ritualistic exercise that takes priority over health, relationships, and recovery. Often co-occurs with other eating disorder diagnoses.
Our registered dietitians specializes in eating disorders and have experience supporting recovery across all diagnoses.
