Bulimia Dietitian: Compassionate Support for Bulimia Nervosa Recovery
Bulimia nervosa can feel isolating and exhausting, and recovery is possible. As bulimia dietitians, we help you interrupt the binge-purge cycle, eat with more consistency and less fear, and rebuild trust with your body. We offer bulimia treatment in person in Austin and Round Rock, TX, and virtually across 17 states.
What Is Bulimia Nervosa?
Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder involving repeated episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives or diuretics, fasting, or excessive exercise. Self-worth is often closely tied to body shape and weight.
People with bulimia are often in average or larger bodies, so the illness can go unnoticed for years. Purging can cause serious medical problems, including electrolyte imbalances that affect the heart, dental erosion, and digestive issues.
How the Binge-purge Cycle Works
The cycle often starts with restriction or strict food rules. Hunger and stress build until a binge happens, which brings shame and a strong urge to compensate. Compensating leads back to restriction. Our work targets the restriction at the start of the loop, which helps reduce both binges and purges over time.

- Fasting or strict dieting between binges
- Exercising hard to “make up for” eating
- Swollen cheeks or jaw, sore throat, or dental problems

If purging is happening often, please talk with a medical provider soon. We can help you connect with one.
