Binge Eating Disorder Dietitian: Non-diet Support for BED Recovery
Binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder in the United States, and it is treatable. As binge eating disorder dietitians, we help you step out of the binge-restrict cycle, feel more at peace with food, and care for your body without dieting. We see clients in person in Austin and Round Rock, TX, and virtually across 17 states.
What Is Binge Eating Disorder?
Binge eating disorder (BED) is an eating disorder involving recurring episodes of eating a large amount of food in a short time while feeling a loss of control. Episodes are often followed by guilt, shame, or distress. Unlike bulimia, BED does not involve regular compensatory behaviors such as vomiting or over-exercising.
BED affects people of all genders and body sizes. It is not a lack of willpower. Restriction, dieting, stress, trauma, and difficult emotions can all feed the cycle.
The Binge-restrict Cycle
Many people with BED try to fix binges by eating less the next day or starting a new diet. That restriction increases physical and emotional hunger, which makes the next binge more likely. Breaking the cycle usually starts with eating more consistently, not less.
Signs and Symptoms of Binge Eating Disorder
- Eating large amounts of food while feeling unable to stop
- Eating quickly or past the point of comfortable fullness
- Eating when not physically hungry
- Eating alone or hiding food because of embarrassment
- Feeling guilt, shame, or disgust after eating
- A history of repeated dieting or “starting over Monday”
- Using food to cope with stress, boredom, or emotions
- Preoccupation with body size or weight
Binge eating happens in bodies of every size. You deserve care no matter what you weigh.
How Our Binge Eating Disorder Dietitians Help
We use a weight-inclusive, non-diet approach to BED treatment. That means no calorie counting, no weight-loss goals, and no food shaming. We focus on the patterns that keep binges going.
Regular, Adequate Eating
We build a steady eating rhythm so your body isn’t running on empty, which reduces the physical drive to binge.
Making Peace With Food
We work through food rules and “forbidden” foods so they lose their power over you.
Hunger and Emotion Awareness
We help you notice hunger, fullness, and emotional triggers, and build coping tools alongside your therapist.
Body Respect
We support you in caring for your body at its current size, including managing health conditions without weight stigma.
